Legalising documents for Germany

The Federal Republic of Germany is a country in central Europe, with its capital at Berlin. It is the largest economy in Europe and the most populous country in the European Union. It is a federal parliamentary republic consisting of sixteen states (Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein).

Documents issued in the United Kingdom to be used in Germany will need to be notarised and/or apostilled in order to be valid in Germany.

Germany was a founding signatory to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. It came into force on 13 February 1962, and means that any document that has been apostilled will be accepted in Germany. Legalisation by the The Embassy of Germany in London is not required.
