What is a Department of Health and Social Care Document?

The Department of Health and Social Care is part of the UK government. It issues various official documents to organisations and individuals that they may require for applications, claims or as evidence overseas.

When Do You Need Notarisation for a DHSC Document?

You may need to have your health document notarised if you are sending it to an institution or organisation overseas

We offer expert notary public services tailored to your needs. One of our notaries will verify the authenticity of the document and apply a notarial certificate. You can usually collect your notarised document on the next day.

Government-Issued Document Apostille

Many countries require an apostille for Department of Health and Social Care documents. This is an internationally recognised form of legalisation that a notary public can obtain from the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office).

Depending on how quickly you need your document legalised, we can provide a next-day service (when we receive the document by 10.30 am) or a competitively priced standard service. Our e-apostille service takes up to two working days.

If you are using your government-issued document in a country that hasn’t signed the Hague Apostille Convention, we can arrange consular legalisation.

How Was Your Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Document Issued?

The steps required for notarisation and legalisation will depend on how your document was issued:

  • An original Department of Health (DH) document signed by an official of the issuing authority

This does not need to be notarised and can be apostilled directly by the FCDO. If, however, you would like notarisation, the notary can make a copy and notarise the copy as a “true copy of the original”.

  • An original Department of Health (DH) document not signed by an official of the issuing authority

This needs notarisation before it can be apostilled. The notary will need to either confirm the original document with the Department of Health or make a copy and notarise the copy as a ‘true copy of the original’.  Once it has been notarised, it can be submitted to the FCDO to be apostilled.

  • A printout of your electronic Department of Health (DH) document produced from the original PDF or other electronic document.

This needs notarisation before being apostilled. The notary will need to verify where the document was sent from, and – on being satisfied it is authentic – can complete the notarisation. It can then be apostilled after it has been notarised.

E-notarisation and E-apostille

Yes, we can e-notarise a copy of your DHSC document with a Qualified electronic signature. We also submit it to the FCDO or an e-apostille.

Before proceeding, you should always check with the recipient of the DHSC to confirm whether they will accept an e-apostille.
