What Are Veterinary Documents?

Veterinary documents encompass a range of paperwork essential for the functioning of veterinary clinics, hospitals and research facilities. These documents include:

  • Treatment Records: Detailed accounts of medical treatments administered to animals.
  • Prescriptions: Documents authorising the dispensing of medications to animals.
  • Lab Reports: Results from various laboratory tests conducted on animal specimens.
  • Medical Certificates: Official statements confirming an animal’s health status, often required for travel and/or show purposes.
  • Vaccination Records: Documentation of vaccinations given to animals to ensure their health and safety.
  • Ownership Certificates: Proof of ownership for animals, especially valuable in cases of sales or adoptions.

The Importance of Notarised and Apostilled Veterinary Documents

When submitting Veterinary documents abroad, you will likely be asked to have them notarised and apostilled.  Depending on which country the documents are to be used in, you may also require Embassy Legalisation.

Notarisation and an apostille provide reassurance that the Veterinary document is authentic, and this assurance will be relied on in the country in which it will be used.

Notarised and apostilled veterinary documents play a critical role in various scenarios, including:

  • International Travel: When taking animals across borders, notarised documents may be required to verify their health status.
  • Legal Proceedings: In cases of disputes or legal issues involving animals, notarised documents can serve as critical evidence.
  • Show and Competition: Most animal shows and competitions require notarised health and ownership documents.
  • Insurance Claims: When making insurance claims related to animals, notarised medical records can be essential for processing.

Research and Studies: In the field of veterinary research, notarised documents ensure the authenticity of data and findings.

Process for Notarising Veterinary Documents

The process to notarise and apostille veterinary documents depends on how it was issued to you:

If you received a physical wet ink signed document, this can be apostilled directly by the FCDO.

Alternatively, if you didn’t want to submit your original document, we can make a photocopy and notarise the copy.  The notarised copy can then be apostilled at the FCDO.

We always recommend checking with the ultimate recipient of the veterinary document as to whether they would require the original or if a copy would be acceptable.

  • Electronically as a PDF

If you only received an electronically issued veterinary document, we will need to verify it is authentic, and then notarise the electronic copy provided to you.  We can then submit the notarised copy to the FCDO to be apostilled.
