Legalisation for Austria

Notarisation

Apostille

The Republic of Austria, or Austria for short, is a federation of nine provinces (Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna). Located in central Europe, it is a member of the European Union.

Documents issued in the United Kingdom to be used in Austria will need to be notarised and/or apostilled in order to be valid in Austria.

The Republic of Austria was one of the founding signatories to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, however it didn’t come into force until 14 November 1967. Ever since this date, any document that has been apostilled will be accepted in Austria. Legalisation by the The Austrian Embassy in the United Kingdom in London is not required.
