What Is a Civil Partnership and Conversion of Civil Partnership?

In the UK, a Civil Partnership is a legal relationship that grants same-sex couples (or opposite-sex couples in some countries) the same legal rights and responsibilities as a heterosexual marriage. It is a formal registration of their relationship with the government.

Conversion of Civil Partnership refers to the process by which a couple in a Civil Partnership can convert their partnership into a marriage. This is typically done by filling out a form and paying a fee to the government. Once the conversion is complete, the couple is considered legally married.

Why You Might Need an Apostille for a Civil Partnership and Conversion of Civil Partnership

You might need an apostille for a Civil Partnership and the Conversion of a Civil Partnership Certificate if you plan to use the document in a foreign country.

An apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature and seal of the official who signed the document. It is often required by foreign governments or organisations to ensure that the document is genuine and legally valid.

If you plan to use either of the certificates for legal purposes in a foreign country, you may need to obtain an apostille to ensure that the document will be recognised as valid.

What Documents Are You Required to Provide When Applying for an Apostille Certificate?

To apostille a Conversion of Civil Partnership or a Conversion of Civil Partnership certificate, you will need the following:
